CURSILLO TERMS
Cursillo: Little course in Christianity. To "make a Cursillo" is to share your Christian life with others, to open your life, to see beyond. A person makes only one Cursillo. Notice we use the word "make" rather than say "go to" or "go on" a Cursillo. We come back to this place to help someone else make a Cursillo, but you make only one Cursillo.
Cursillista: Yesterday I didn't know how to spell it, now I are one.
Palanca: Comes from a larger word, apalancar, which means "to lean" or "to be a lever". Palanca is what a person does to move the spirit within person making a Cursillo. It can take many and varied forms, any offering of love that is meaningful to you. It often is given to the whole group making Cursillo and is sent in charity to all.
Rollo: Strictly speaking, means a scroll. To give a Rollo is to unroll the scroll of your (Arrollo) life; your Christian being.
Agape: Christian love. The service is simply the sharing of bread and wine with those you love.
Mananitas: The morning greeting for special occasions (birthdays, baptism, etc.). Many Spanish speaking people gather around the bed of the person and awaken him or her with the Morning Song - the Birthday Song. Today is the first day of the rest of your life.
Clausura: Closura - the closing.
Ultreya: Forward or Onward. Gathering of Cursillistas to celebrate, to share burdens, to give strength, and to receive strength.
De Colores: Many colors, or many-colored; a rainbow, a beauty in your soul. You must be careful that you really mean it when you say "De Colores" to someone, because what you are saying is that you think that person is in grace with God. De Colores becomes a way of life. The song we sing is a love song; in Mexico, the kindergarten children learn this song. How beautiful to make your life De Colores.
Group Reunions: This takes many forms: weekly breakfasts, prayer meetings, morning Eucharists, dialogue groups. They are a constant source of renewal. And don't forget the telephone!
